Hydration is a Job Requirement

Austin Baker · April 20, 2026

By the time you feel thirsty, you are already behind. That’s when mistakes start happening. Coffee and energy drinks are not hydration. They are borrowed energy—and you pay for it later.

If you want to keep your head clear and your muscles moving during hour 11 of a 12-hour shift, you have to prioritize water. Most guys start their shift already behind. You can't win if you're running on empty.

1. Start of Shift Rule Do not start your day empty. Drink 20 oz of water before your first coffee. Wake your body up before you hit it with caffeine.

2. The Salt Factor If you are sweating, water alone is not enough. You need electrolytes. Add a pinch of salt or use a zero-sugar electrolyte mix. This keeps your energy steady and prevents crashes.

3. Finish Test If you get home with a pounding headache, you were behind all day. Fix it before bed. Do not start the next day in a hole.

The Bottom Line You do not need another energy drink. You need to handle the basics. Water first. Everything else comes after.

Load your day. Hold your line. Finish in control. Carry when needed.

"You do not need more caffeine. You need a habit."
